Two Schools become One

Before Wardle House, Junior students at the Army Hut, 1940s. Carol Paine Collection, Toorak College Archives

MARKER 7

Junior students have attended Toorak College since it began in Melbourne in 1874.

During the 1940s, demand for junior classes grew under Principal Mrs Wardle. A dedicated junior school building, Wardle House, was opened in 1957.

It was separated from the main school by Charles Street.  This obstacle was removed in 1999, bringing the two school campuses together.
